MRI in China for Foreigners: Package Add-ons, Costs and Reports

At Shanghai Ren’ai Hospital, an optional MRI costs US$150 per single body region when booked with a health-check package. There are no standalone MRI appointments under this offer. Contrast costs extra; the hospital must confirm the exact region, clinical suitability and availability before booking.

Available only with a Ren’ai health-check package. No standalone MRI appointments. The US$150 is an additional single-region MRI price, not a whole-package price. Contrast, if required, costs extra.
The add-on includes the doctor’s order, English-speaking accompaniment, the hospital’s Chinese report with English translation, and DICOM image files.
Check your package first: Ren’ai Men’s Select 03 (US$778) and Women’s Select 03 (US$790) already include MRI of one region chosen from head, cervical spine or lumbar spine. Do not add another charge for an examination already included.
The hospital confirms the exact region, clinical suitability and availability before booking. Agree any extras, appointment time, report/translation delivery and DICOM access instructions in the written plan; no same-day timing or coverage of every region is promised.

The women’s option 03 list names brain MRI (non-contrast in the Chinese source). It does not establish availability of another region or a stand-alone MRI booking.

These are complete package prices, not standalone MRI prices. The Ren’ai US$150 add-on is only for an additional accepted region alongside a Ren’ai health-check package; an included MRI is not charged again.
Start with the clinical request
Tell the coordinator whether you are bringing a doctor’s recommendation, following an earlier finding or asking about an addition to a routine check-up. An imaging request is different from choosing a general package. If the request is unclear, ask for clinical review before paying for a named scan.
- Specify the body region and, for paired joints, left or right.
- Ask whether a consultation is needed before a scan can be accepted.
- Separate the examination from any contrast, additional region or specialist interpretation charge.
Brain, spine, joint MRI or MRA?
- Brain MRI: identify the doctor’s clinical question and previous images. Do not assume a brain MRI includes an angiography protocol.
- Spine MRI: name the requested segment, such as cervical, thoracic or lumbar. A scan of one segment does not imply coverage of the whole spine.
- Joint MRI: name the joint and the side, for example the left or right knee. Separate joints or both sides need explicit confirmation.
- MRA: magnetic resonance angiography examines blood vessels. Ask whether this is the requested examination, which region it covers and whether it is separately quoted.
These region names describe possible clinical requests. They do not establish that every region or protocol is available under the Ren’ai US$150 offer.

MRI safety and preparation
MRI uses a strong magnetic field rather than ionizing radiation. Implants, devices and metal-related safety information need assessment by the imaging team; a scan is not suitable for everyone. See FDA guidance on MRI benefits and risks.
Give the provider its requested safety information through the agreed private channel. Ask about preparation, medication questions, contrast, claustrophobia and any assistance you need. Do not assume that advice for a previous MRI applies to this protocol. You can describe your question and special requirements in the enquiry; the provider will confirm which records are needed for assessment.
Compare a complete MRI quote
The confirmed Ren’ai add-on is US$150 per single body region with a health-check package. The package itself is priced separately; contrast costs extra. For another hospital, region or protocol, obtain an accepted written scope and price instead of applying this Ren’ai offer automatically.

A confirmed health-check package includes its listed examinations, personalized VIP coordination, dedicated English-speaking accompaniment throughout the check-up, and the hospital-issued Chinese report with full English translation. Additional MRI regions and any other extras must be identified and priced separately; treatment, medicines and extra travel are not included unless expressly agreed.
Choose the city and protect your travel schedule
Start with a city you will actually visit. Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen have separate planning routes below. A listed hospital is a starting point for an enquiry; its appearance in a directory does not confirm MRI availability for your date or protocol.
Confirm whether registration, consultation and imaging happen in one visit. Keep a buffer before flights and business commitments. Requests for a rapid appointment are subject to the provider accepting the examination and having capacity.
Reports, image files and follow-up
The confirmed Ren’ai add-on includes DICOM image files as well as the hospital’s Chinese report and English translation. These are separate deliverables: confirm the access instructions, any download expiry and the delivery date for each. For other hospitals or package inclusions, confirm the exact file arrangements before booking.
The hospital-issued Chinese report and complete English translation are delivered within 3–5 working days after all examinations listed in your confirmed check-up package are completed. An MRI outside the listed package needs its own confirmed reporting arrangements. Arrange any clinical explanation and follow-up with the hospital and identify a contact for delayed files or questions.
