MRI, CT and Ultrasound Add-ons for a Shanghai Health Check
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated
An imaging addition should specify the examination, body region and clinical purpose before it becomes part of your Shanghai check-up plan. “Full body” and “comprehensive” do not confirm that a requested MRI, CT or ultrasound is included.
Shanghai · Ren’ai Hospital · optional package addition
MRI add-on: US$150 per single body region
Available only with a Ren’ai health-check package. No standalone MRI appointments. The US$150 is an additional single-region MRI price, not a whole-package price. Contrast, if required, costs extra.
The add-on includes the doctor’s order, English-speaking accompaniment, the hospital’s Chinese report with English translation, and DICOM image files.
Check your package first: Ren’ai Men’s Select 03 (US$778) and Women’s Select 03 (US$790) already include MRI of one region chosen from head, cervical spine or lumbar spine. Do not add another charge for an examination already included.
The hospital confirms the exact region, clinical suitability and availability before booking. Agree any extras, appointment time, report/translation delivery and DICOM access instructions in the written plan; no same-day timing or coverage of every region is promised.
Keep your package and additional test separate
If you already chose a package, include its name in your enquiry. We will check the requested addition with the provider and confirm the revised scope, total and appointment sequence.

Enquiry routes checked 7 October 2026. A requested addition remains pending until the hospital accepts it; an enquiry is not a clinical order.
MRI, CT and ultrasound are three different booking questions
| Requested addition | Details to resolve |
|---|---|
| MRI | Body region and side, the clinical request, contrast if prescribed, implant/device screening and image delivery. |
| CT | Body region, purpose, protocol and contrast if prescribed; ask the clinician about appropriateness. |
| Ultrasound | Exact region or examination, test-specific preparation and whether a separate appointment is needed. |
“Add a scan” is not enough to establish the examination or price. A scan in one region does not include every region, and a package containing CT does not automatically contain MRI.
Check clinical suitability before confirming the addition
The FDA explains that MRI uses strong magnetic fields and requires safety assessment, including implanted or external devices. Share relevant device information through the provider’s private clinical process; do not assume that having a previous MRI automatically clears a new examination.
Keep the booking decision practical: request the agreed examination name, separate price, preparation instructions, expected appointment duration and report format. See cancer screening questions if your purpose is preventive screening, and previous-test review if you already have recent imaging.
Describe the question, not just a scan name
Tell the hospital what you want assessed and provide relevant previous results through a private channel when requested. The clinician should determine whether imaging is appropriate and which examination would help. A coordinator can clarify bookings and quotes without selecting a diagnostic test on your behalf.
The FDA cautions against assuming whole-body CT screening is beneficial for people without symptoms. An extensive commercial package should not replace an individual clinical discussion.
Make the requested scope unambiguous
| Detail | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Examination | MRI, CT or ultrasound, with the exact named study |
| Region and side | Which region, joint or side is covered? |
| Protocol | Is contrast or other preparation required? |
| Appointment | Same campus and day, or a separate booking? |
| Output | Written report, English translation and accessible image files? |
Complete safety review before fixing the schedule
Use the hospital’s screening process for implants, previous reactions and other relevant information. RadiologyInfo’s MRI safety guidance explains why implants and metal require careful assessment. Do not assume an earlier scan or a device description is enough to clear a new appointment.
Ask who confirms suitability and when that confirmation is needed. An unapproved addition should remain marked as pending in the quotation.
Approve the revised appointment plan
Confirm the separate price, any change to the check-up sequence and the report timetable. Same-day coordination depends on hospital assessment and appointment availability. It cannot be promised simply because a visitor has a short stay.
Ask whether clinical review is needed before or after imaging and how it will be arranged. MRI requests on this route accompany a health-check package; other diagnostic enquiries need their own accepted scope.
Common questions
Does abdominal ultrasound include every abdominal and pelvic structure?
Ask for the named regions and organs in the proposed examination. A broad label does not establish the precise scope.
Can I assume an MRI report includes the scan images?
The confirmed Ren’ai US$150 package add-on includes DICOM files. Confirm their access method and delivery timing separately from the written report. For another package or provider, check whether image files are included.

Plan your Shanghai visit
Describe the examination you want to discuss, the body region and your Shanghai dates. We can request clinical review, availability and a written quote.
An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Confirm the hospital, campus, date, scope and total in writing before payment.
