Previous Test Results and Your Shanghai Health Check
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated
Previous results can help the Shanghai hospital review your needs, but the clinician decides whether they are sufficient or whether a test should be repeated. Ask before payment if you hope to change a package because you have already completed some examinations.
Use the exact scope in your plan
When asking about a replacement or addition, identify the exact test and bring the question to the clinician. Compare the one-region MRI examples and named chest CT protocols; similar labels do not establish equivalent scope. The provider decides whether a previous result can be used.
Bring comparable records, not just “my result was normal”
For the hospital’s private review, gather the test name, date, provider, actual report and any available image files. If a previous record is in another language, ask what translation the reviewing clinician needs. These details help the clinician decide whether a result answers the current question.
A recent test does not automatically replace a package item. The clinician may need a different method, region or time point; the provider must also confirm whether substitution or repricing is possible.
Ask for one revised examination list
If the provider agrees to use previous results or change an item, request an updated list before payment. Keep the agreed exclusions, replacements, price and report scope together so the hospital appointment matches the final proposal.
For imaging, use the MRI, CT and ultrasound checklist. For a broader comparison, return to the full body check-up guide. Do not upload records into the first enquiry; ask for the appropriate private review channel.
Bring usable records
Prepare the dated report, the examination name and any relevant images. Keep the patient details available for the hospital to verify privately. A brief recollection of a result is different from a report the clinician can review.
Ask whether English records are acceptable for the planned review or whether translation is needed. For imaging, check whether the original files can be opened, not just whether you have a screenshot of a summary.
Separate clinical decisions from package rules
There are two questions: whether repeating an examination is medically useful, and whether the provider permits an item to be removed or substituted commercially. A positive answer to one does not automatically answer the other.
If a clinician advises a change, ask the coordinator to obtain a revised list and total. Do not assume that skipping one item yields a fixed discount or lets you replace it with an unrelated scan at no extra charge.
Resolve the comparison before attending
List previous tests and dates alongside the proposed package, then flag apparent overlaps for review. Similar names may cover different methods or scope, so the hospital should confirm whether they are comparable.
On the day, bring the agreed revised plan. If a proposed repeat is unexpected, ask the clinician to explain its purpose before consenting. Keep the final Shanghai report with the earlier records so your usual doctor can understand what was done and when.
Common questions
Will every overseas report be accepted instead of a new test?
No. Acceptance depends on the examination, record quality, timing and clinical purpose. Ask the hospital to review the actual documents.
Can the coordinator decide which tests I should omit?
The coordinator can clarify package rules and organise review. Medical suitability and repeat-testing decisions belong to the clinician.
Define the review being requested
Explain the question the visitor wants a clinician to address and whether a treating doctor has recommended further review. Ask whether the proposed service is a consultation using previous imaging or a formal second radiology interpretation. Those should not be assumed to be the same service, department, deliverable or price.
Request the receiving hospital, clinician or department, appointment format and acceptance process. A coordinator’s ability to receive a download link does not establish that the hospital offers a formal second read or that a doctor has agreed to review the examination before arrival.

| Stage | What needs confirmation | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Files received | The intended team has the transfer | That all files open or are complete |
| Study accessible | The required report and images can be opened | That a clinician has reviewed them |
| Clinical review | The accepted clinician has addressed the agreed question | That another scan will never be needed |
Ask who will confirm each stage and whether anything is missing. Keep the review pending until the actual clinical service has taken place or its pre-visit review has been explicitly confirmed.

Plan your Shanghai visit
Tell us which previous examinations you want the hospital to review and when they were done. Ask for any package changes in writing.
An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Confirm the hospital, campus, date, scope and total in writing before payment.
Generalized planning example
Planning example: compare records and the revised total
A generalized planning example based on anonymised enquiry themes. It is not a completed visit, testimonial or promised medical outcome. The hospital must confirm each proposed arrangement.
A visitor brings recent results and wants the hospital to review gaps before accepting more tests. Use a blank comparison record; it is not a clinical judgement or a completed patient case.
| Existing record | Proposed package item | Decision to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Examination name, date and original file | Exact test name, method and body region | Receiving clinician accepts the previous result, requests more information or explains a repeat. |
| Result accepted for the proposed purpose | Revised examination list | Written payable total; omission does not automatically create a per-test discount. |
