Illustrative planning scenario
Fitting a TCM Consultation into a Shanghai Visit
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published
A visitor would like a traditional Chinese medicine consultation during a Shanghai trip and has earlier reports for the doctor to consider. Plan the consultation as its own appointment: confirm the purpose, location, language arrangement and fee before adding any later examinations or treatment.
Illustrative planning scenario. A generalized planning example, not a completed visit, testimonial or treatment outcome. The provider must confirm each proposed arrangement.
Describe the consultation you want to arrange
Explain what you hope to discuss with the clinician and which previous reports are available. Ask the receiving team which documents are useful, whether translation is needed and how to share them privately. Records provide context for the consultation; they do not determine a treatment plan in advance.
Send your usable dates and the latest time you can leave for another commitment. Ask whether the requested department and appointment route can be confirmed for those dates. A general interest in TCM does not establish that a particular doctor, technique or treatment course is available.
Make the language plan specific
| Arrangement | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Doctor communicating in English | Is this available for the actual clinician and appointment? |
| Interpreter or English accompaniment | Who attends, which conversations are covered, and for how long? |
| Written translation | Which documents are translated, into which language, and when? |
Choose support that lets you explain your concerns and understand the clinician’s advice. If another language is important, request it explicitly and wait for availability and pricing confirmation. Do not treat routine English check-up support as an automatic inclusion in a separate TCM consultation.
Separate a consultation from proposed additions
Ask what the consultation fee covers. A clinician may suggest further examinations or discuss treatment after assessment; those are separate decisions. Confirm the proposed item, purpose, location, price and your acceptance before it is added to the plan.
An enquiry or consultation booking does not commit you to acupuncture, manual therapy, medicines or a course of visits. This planning example does not recommend a particular therapy or predict a benefit. Decisions about suitability belong to the treating clinician and the patient.
Check whether the practical sequence fits
Confirm the exact Shanghai campus or clinic, registration steps, meeting point and contact person. If another appointment is proposed, check its timing separately and allow for travel between locations where relevant. Do not assume a consultation and every later step can happen during one short visit.
If a further visit or review is needed, ask whether it can be arranged before departure and what the alternative would be afterward. The completion and reporting terms for a confirmed health-check package do not set a deadline for a TCM treatment course or specialist follow-up.
Review the written plan before accepting
- Consultation purpose, accepted clinician or department, date and address.
- Prior records requested and any agreed translation.
- Consultation, interpretation and coordination charges shown separately.
- How optional examinations or treatment will be proposed and priced.
- Payment, changes, cancellation and any follow-up arrangements.
This is a general planning scenario. It does not describe a completed MyChinaCheckup visit, an accepted treatment plan or a patient’s result. For a screening visit alongside a consultation, compare the separate appointment requirements in the related guides.
Discuss your own plan
Explain the appointment or examination scope you want checked. An enquiry is free and does not reserve an appointment. The receiving provider confirms suitability, availability and the written plan.
