Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy in China: Visitor Planning

By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated

Gastroscopy and colonoscopy require their own clinical acceptance, preparation and timing. Confirm the appointment and instructions with the provider before adding either examination to a travel-day health check.

Choose an enquiry route →

Which enquiry fits your visit?

A stand-alone examination

Use this when the named test is your main reason for visiting. Tell us your city, travel window and any existing doctor recommendation.

Request a separate procedure quote

An addition to a check-up

Send the package name and the extra examination you want to discuss. We will confirm whether it needs a separate appointment and an amended quote.

Discuss a package addition

Clinical review first

The hospital must accept the procedure and confirm preparation, sedation arrangements and any companion requirement. A routine health-check booking does not secure an endoscopy slot.

Ask about review before booking

Clarify which procedure is being requested

State whether you have a doctor’s recommendation, previous finding or symptoms, or are asking about screening. The provider decides the appropriate clinical route. A package described as comprehensive does not automatically include either procedure.

Gastroscopy examines the upper digestive tract; colonoscopy examines the colon. The preparation and scheduling differ. Read the general patient information from NIDDK for upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy, then obtain instructions for your own appointment.

Preparation belongs to the provider

Colonoscopy requires bowel preparation, and upper GI endoscopy involves eating and drinking restrictions. Discuss medicines and relevant conditions with the clinical team. If sedation is used, ask about recovery and transport home; do not plan to drive yourself after a sedated procedure.

Ask for instructions in a language you understand, the date preparation begins, and whom to contact if you cannot follow them. Do not change medication or copy another visitor’s preparation schedule. Coordination should confirm that you received the instructions, not replace clinical advice.

Confirm the appointment and companion arrangements

  • Is a pre-procedure consultation or another test required?
  • Which campus, department and arrival time are confirmed?
  • What sedation or anaesthesia arrangement has the provider proposed?
  • Is an accompanying adult required, and may your companion enter the waiting area?
  • What recovery time and travel restrictions does the provider advise?

A routine 2–3.5 hour check-up estimate is not an endoscopy itinerary. Ask the hospital about the order if you want other examinations in the same visit.

Separate the planned price from contingent costs

We do not publish an unverified stand-alone gastroscopy / colonoscopy tariff. The accepted examination and provider determine the quote. A package price below covers the complete named package; it is not the price of this examination alone.

Your gastroscopy / colonoscopy quote checklist
Confirm in your quoteWhat the written plan should specify
Procedure and assessmentGastroscopy, colonoscopy or both; the hospital and campus; any consultation, doctor order or pre-procedure checks required.
Sedation and preparationWhether sedation / anaesthesia is part of the agreed plan, its assessment and charges, preparation medicines or supplies, recovery and accompanying-adult arrangements.
Possible additional costsAsk how biopsy, pathology, polyp removal or other treatment would be explained, consented to and priced. Do not assume these are included.
Support and recordsThe agreed English coordination/accompaniment, hospital procedure report, translation and any separately released pathology report; delivery method and expected dates.
Changes to the planThe full total, any separate appointment and the applicable cancellation terms if clinical review changes or postpones the procedure.

A confirmed check-up package includes its listed tests, personalized VIP coordination, dedicated English-speaking accompaniment throughout the check-up, and the hospital-issued Chinese report with full English translation. A separate examination or package addition needs its own agreed scope. Unlisted treatment, medicines, extra referrals and travel to another provider are not included unless expressly agreed and priced.

Reports may arrive at different times

Ask which records are available after the procedure and which depend on later analysis. A procedure note, any available endoscopy images, pathology result and final interpretation may have different delivery dates. Ask which images can be supplied; DICOM is not promised for an endoscopy visit. Agree the English translation scope and the way your doctor abroad will receive the records.

Leave the visit with an agreed contact and follow-up plan. If you are departing China, confirm how outstanding results and clinical questions will be handled. Pathology outside the listed package has its own confirmed reporting arrangements.

A published endoscopy package example

Package examples checked against our published catalogue on 7 October 2026. Prices below are for the entire named package with its listed examinations and included services, not a stand-alone scan or procedure. Clinical acceptance, current availability and the written quote still require confirmation.

Shenzhen · Shenzhen People’s Hospital

Women’s check-up 03 · US$1004
Whole-package reference price · Women

The women’s option 03 list explicitly names sedated upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Its US$1004 price is for the whole package, not a stand-alone gastroscopy or colonoscopy tariff.

The list alone does not confirm appointment availability, the exact campus, an anaesthesia plan, or inclusion of biopsy, pathology or treatment. Confirm these separately before booking.

The named catalogue example is in Shenzhen. For Shanghai or another city, we must confirm a suitable accepting provider before naming a procedure price or appointment; a city enquiry is not a confirmed service offer.

Continue planning

Request your gastroscopy / colonoscopy plan

Share your city, dates, the examination you want to discuss and any special requirements. We will confirm the provider’s acceptance, appointment and written quote.

Plan your report handover · Compare Shanghai check-up routes

An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. The provider confirms suitability, preparation and availability.

The hospital-issued Chinese report and complete English translation are delivered within 3–5 working days after all examinations listed in your confirmed check-up package are completed. Consultations, treatment, pathology and other services outside the listed package follow their separately confirmed arrangements.
