Planning a China Health Check-up with Brain MRI, MRA and Other Requested Scans

By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published

A visitor has prepared an imaging wish list, including brain MRI and a specifically named MRA, but has not chosen the city or travel dates. The useful next step is to explain the question behind each request and obtain clinical review, then match only the accepted examinations to a workable hospital and quote.

A composite planning example based on anonymised enquiry themes, not a record of a completed visit or a promised outcome. The provider must confirm each arrangement.

Ask what each requested examination is meant to answer

For every requested scan, write the concern, any clinician recommendation, relevant previous report and whether the visitor is seeking assessment of a symptom or preventive advice. The clinician may ask about personal or family history where relevant. Share those details through the provider’s agreed private review process.

Do not treat a self-prepared list as an order to carry out every examination. A clinician can explain which requests are appropriate, which need another assessment first and which should not be pursued. The outcome may be a shorter or different accepted plan, not the largest collection of scans.

Keep brain MRI and a requested MRA as separate scope questions

RadiologyInfo describes MRA as an MRI-based examination of blood vessels, with contrast use depending on the examination. A package listing brain or head MRI does not by itself establish that a separately requested MRA is included. Ask the receiving team to confirm the exact region and protocol against the clinical question.

The same discipline applies to other imaging names: preserve the requested method and clarify any proposed change. A chest CT listing, for example, should not be relabelled low-dose CT unless that protocol has actually been confirmed. The coordinator can clarify wording but does not choose imaging sequences or issue the clinical order.

Do not make a high-intensity scan a default upgrade

If the wish list mentions PET/CT or another advanced examination, ask the clinician whether there is an appropriate reason for it before seeking a booking. Do not add PET/CT to routine screening simply because it is available somewhere or appears more comprehensive. RadiologyInfo’s PET/CT overview describes a nuclear-medicine examination using a radiotracer; it is not evidence that an unspecified healthy visitor needs it.

Keep clinical acceptance, safety review and provider availability separate. A quoted amount or a free appointment does not answer whether the requested examination is suitable. Follow the performing department’s instructions for the accepted test.

Turn the accepted items into a provider-specific worksheet

Scroll sideways to see every column.

FieldAnswer required for each accepted item
Purpose and protocolClinical question, exact examination and body region
ProviderCity, hospital, campus and department
Booking dependencyConsultation or order first; accepted appointment sequence
PriceIncluded package item or separately approved addition; any extras
DeliverablesOriginal report, translation, available images and clinician explanation

A city can remain undecided while requirements are reviewed. Do not infer that every listed hospital offers every accepted item, or that all can be completed on one morning.

Reconcile package inclusions before paying for additions

Compare the accepted worksheet with the full package. At Ren’ai, an included Select 03 MRI region must not be charged again as an additional region. The US$150 offer is only an accepted additional single-region MRI with a Ren’ai health-check package; contrast is extra. It is not a national scan price and does not establish MRA or every protocol as part of the offer.

Request one final scope and total, with pending items clearly separated. Confirm preparation, appointment order and the release date of each report, translation and available image set. Ask who will explain the combined findings and how that review will be arranged if the visitor leaves China before every result is ready.

Discuss your own plan

Give the clinical question behind each requested scan, identify MRA separately where requested, and mark the city or dates as undecided if needed.

The hospital-issued Chinese report and complete English translation are delivered within 3–5 working days after all examinations listed in your confirmed check-up package are completed. Consultations, treatment, pathology and other services outside the listed package follow their separately confirmed arrangements.
