Can I Get My Reports After Leaving Shanghai?

By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated

Electronic report delivery can be planned after you leave China. Confirm the delivery channel, documents and expected dates before your Shanghai appointment, and distinguish receiving a report from having a clinician explain it.

Use the exact scope in your plan

Use the report and imaging handover checklist to record the Chinese report, full English translation, any separately released results, and whether DICOM files are available. Agree access, expiry, any charge and a private delivery channel before departure; a report PDF alone does not establish image access.

Match the output to the actual campus and service

Two Shanghai catalogue examples show why one generic “reports included” line is not enough:

  • Renji East Men’s check-up 01 lists chest X-ray and explicitly excludes physical film. Ask separately what digital images, if any, can be provided and how they are accessed. A film exclusion does not establish a digital-file entitlement.
  • The current Ren’ai MRI package-addition offer expressly includes DICOM files alongside the Chinese report and English translation. Confirm the delivery route, access instructions and timing in your plan. Do not transfer that specific inclusion to every package or provider.

These are catalogue examples checked on 13 October 2026, not promises of a particular campus portal, login method or release date. Ask the selected provider to confirm those details for your appointment.

Agree the report handover before you leave

Document or actionYour confirmed arrangement
Hospital-issued reportExpected date and the private delivery channel you can access overseas.
English translationWhich documents are covered and whether timing differs from the Chinese report.
Imaging filesWhether image files, viewer access or a separate report must be requested.
Missing resultsWho tracks each outstanding item and how you will be contacted.
Medical explanationWhich qualified clinician will review findings and how a follow-up appointment is arranged.

Email delivery alone does not settle every item on this list. Ask what will be sent, by whom and when; do not assume one PDF contains all images or a clinician’s consultation.

Prepare the handover to your doctor at home

Keep the Chinese original with its English translation, test dates, relevant images and any written follow-up advice. Ask your receiving doctor what format they can use. Their acceptance of a record or need for further assessment is their decision.

For a result that needs further attention, use the follow-up planning guide. If you need an insurance claim, review the Shanghai insurance-document checklist; translated records do not guarantee reimbursement.

Agree what will be delivered

The hospital-issued Chinese report and complete English translation are delivered within 3–5 working days after all examinations listed in your confirmed check-up package are completed. Services outside the listed package require separate reporting arrangements.

Ask whether the delivery includes the written imaging interpretation, image files, a consultation note or only the main check-up report. A translated summary should not be assumed to include every original document.

Confirm access before you lose local support

Check the receiving address privately and agree who to contact if a file does not arrive. Ask about any portal login, download deadline or in-person collection requirement. Do not assume an overseas doctor can open a hospital portal that needs a local account.

Where images are needed, ask which format can be supplied and whether your receiving clinician can use it. Keep the original files unchanged alongside the English translation. If a translation looks inconsistent with the original, ask for clarification rather than editing a clinical finding yourself.

Arrange the medical handover

Book an appropriate clinician review where you will be if you want the findings interpreted after travel. Ask how any recommendation for further assessment will be communicated. Electronic delivery does not establish that all results are normal or that follow-up is unnecessary.

See the Shanghai follow-up guide for the distinction between coordination, interpretation and additional appointments.

Common questions

Can reports be sent directly to my overseas doctor?

Ask about the available process and any consent required. Confirm the recipient and format privately before transmission.

Must I remain in Shanghai until every document is ready?

Not necessarily for electronic delivery alone. Your examinations, any planned review and individual clinical advice determine whether further attendance is needed.

Plan your Shanghai visit

Tell us when you leave China and what documents you need afterwards. Ask for a clear delivery and follow-up plan.

An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Confirm the hospital, campus, date, scope and total in writing before payment.
