Abnormal Shanghai Check-up Results: Plan the Next Appointment

By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated

If a Shanghai health check produces an abnormal finding, ask a qualified clinician what it means and what should happen next. The report translation and appointment coordination help with communication; they do not replace clinical interpretation.

Agree who explains a result and who arranges the next step

RoleWhat to clarify
Hospital clinicianInterpretation, urgency and whether a further test or consultation is needed.
English translator or interpreterAccurate communication of the report or consultation, without substituting their own clinical assessment.
CoordinatorAppointment availability, document routing, language arrangements and a quote for any new service.
Your usual doctorReview and follow-up after returning home, as individually agreed.

An abnormal flag is not, by itself, a diagnosis. Ask the clinician what it means for you and what action, if any, is needed. New or urgent symptoms should be assessed promptly rather than waiting for a routine report process.

Your selected, confirmed package

Four services included in your package

All listed check-up tests

The examinations and consumables expressly listed for your selected package, with its eligibility conditions.

Personalized VIP coordination

Individual appointment planning, visit coordination and support through report delivery.

Dedicated English-speaking accompaniment throughout your check-up

A dedicated English-speaking companion supports you throughout your hospital check-up visit.

Hospital-issued Chinese report + full English translation

Your hospital’s original Chinese report and complete English translation, delivered within 3–5 working days after the listed package examinations are completed.

These four services are included in the price of your selected, confirmed package. Extra tests, treatment, medicines, transport and accommodation are not included unless expressly listed in your written plan; separately priced additions require your approval.

VIP personal service means MyChinaCheckup’s individual coordination and accompaniment. It does not promise a hospital VIP ward, priority medical access or a medical outcome.

If you have already left Shanghai

Ask how the hospital can respond to a report question and whether a separate consultation is available. Confirm the format, clinician, timing and fee of any proposed review; remote consultation and specialist availability are not automatic inclusions.

Keep original records and translations for your doctor at home. See reports after leaving Shanghai. If further examinations are proposed, request a new itemised quote and preparation instructions before making another travel commitment.

Ask who reviews the findings

Before booking, clarify whether the check-up includes a medical review and how you will receive it. Ask who explains a flagged result, whether English interpretation is arranged and how to book a further consultation if advised.

A laboratory flag or imaging comment should be understood in the context of your history and the examination. Avoid deciding on treatment or repeat testing from a translated phrase alone. Ask the clinician to state the recommended next step and timing.

Distinguish urgent care from routine follow-up

A routine booking channel is not an emergency service. If you feel acutely unwell, seek appropriate medical attention instead of waiting for the usual report delivery window or a coordinator’s reply.

For a non-emergency result, ask whether assessment should happen before departure, soon after returning home or at another interval set by the clinician. The answer depends on the finding; there is no single follow-up timetable for every abnormal report.

If you are still in Shanghai

Ask which specialty should review you and whether the appointment is at the same campus. Confirm availability, required records, English support and separate charges. A check-up booking does not guarantee an immediate specialist slot.

  • What question is the specialist being asked to address?
  • Are additional examinations proposed, and why?
  • Will the plan affect your travel date?
  • Who will send the consultation record?

If you have already left China

Arrange a review with a suitable clinician where you are. Keep the hospital-issued Chinese report, English translation and relevant images together. Ask how to obtain a missing document or resolve a translation query through the original provider.

If remote follow-up is requested, confirm whether it is offered for your circumstances and what it covers. Do not assume an overseas video consultation is included. Keep medical records in an agreed private channel rather than posting them to a public review or messaging group.

Common questions

Does an abnormal result mean a serious disease?

Not necessarily. A qualified clinician should interpret it in context and advise whether further assessment is needed.

Are further tests included in the original price?

Only if explicitly included in your confirmed plan. Ask for the scope and price of any additional consultation or examination.

Plan your Shanghai visit

When enquiring, tell us whether you need a planned clinician review before departure. Ask how follow-up and English communication would be arranged.

An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Confirm the hospital, campus, date, scope and total in writing before payment.
