Can Americans Get a Health Check-up in China?

Updated 3 October 2026 · MyChinaCheckup editorial review

By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated

Yes. US visitors can enquire about personal health check-ups at selected hospitals in China. Before booking, the hospital must confirm that it can accept your appointment and register your travel document. Your entry permission, the clinical plan and the appointment confirmation are separate parts of the trip.

Plan my visit from the United States

Start with the question that matters to your trip

This US visitor guide brings together cost comparison, city planning and practical handover questions. For a Shanghai appointment, use our Shanghai health screening page; for Guangzhou, start with the US visitor planning guide. The hospital directories remain the place to compare named campuses and packages.

The examinations and consumables expressly listed for your selected package, with its eligibility conditions.

Personalized VIP coordination

Individual appointment planning, visit coordination and support through report delivery.

Dedicated English-speaking accompaniment throughout your check-up

A dedicated English-speaking companion supports you throughout your hospital check-up visit.

Hospital-issued Chinese report + full English translation

Your hospital’s original Chinese report and complete English translation, delivered within 3–5 working days after the listed package examinations are completed.

These four services are included in the price of your selected, confirmed package. Extra tests, treatment, medicines, transport and accommodation are not included unless expressly listed in your written plan; separately priced additions require your approval.

VIP personal service means MyChinaCheckup’s individual coordination and accompaniment. It does not promise a hospital VIP ward, priority medical access or a medical outcome.

Can I book with a US passport?

Tell the coordinator which travel document you will use so the proposed hospital can confirm its registration requirements. Ask what original document to bring and how your name should appear on the appointment and reports. Do not assume every department or booking system uses the same process.

You do not need to upload a passport or medical records to make the initial website enquiry. Start with your city, dates and broad service request; arrange any required sensitive-document exchange through the agreed channel later. Traveling from the US does not necessarily mean traveling on a US passport, so identify the relevant document when requirements are checked.

Do I need a medical visa, or can I use a tourist or business visa?

A hospital appointment does not establish permission to enter or stay in China. Check the current requirements for your passport, actual trip purpose and itinerary with the Chinese Embassy or the consulate responsible for your application. Ask specifically how the planned healthcare visit relates to your circumstances before making non-refundable arrangements.

MyChinaCheckup cannot determine visa eligibility or promise that a tourist, business or transit arrangement covers an individual trip. A personal preventive check-up is also a different service from a mandated immigration or employment medical examination; if you need an official form, identify the receiving authority and required examiner before booking.

Choose examinations and a hospital before arranging payment

Explain whether you are considering routine screening, a clinician-requested test or a follow-up of an earlier result. If there are symptoms, request the appropriate clinical assessment rather than assuming a general package will answer the question. The treating team decides what examinations are appropriate.

Request the hospital and campus, appointment date, itemized tests, agreed English assistance, total price and change terms in writing. A package inquiry does not reserve a slot. Our China vs US cost guide explains how to compare that quote with care at home without mixing insured costs and unrelated package prices.

How much time should I leave?

MyChinaCheckup's usual routine visit estimate is about 2–3.5 hours at the hospital. The hospital-issued Chinese report and complete English translation are delivered within 3–5 working days after all examinations listed in your confirmed check-up package are completed. Imaging, consultation or further testing outside the listed package needs its own confirmed timetable. A one-morning visit does not mean same-day reports.

After a long flight, leave a workable margin for arrival delays, rest and the hospital's preparation instructions. There is no universal rule that every American visitor must avoid the day after landing. Choose the appointment with your actual arrival time and selected tests in mind. The US one-day itinerary separates travel, the appointment and post-visit tasks.

Who speaks English, and who explains results?

Confirm who meets you, where the meeting starts, which parts of the visit are accompanied and how clinical questions reach the doctor. English accompaniment, an English-speaking physician and report translation are different services; none should be assumed from a general “English support” label.

The Chinese hospital report and its English translation help document the visit. Clinical interpretation belongs with the treating clinician or your receiving doctor. Before travel, ask your US primary care physician (PCP) or specialist how to submit outside records, whether images are required and whether a follow-up appointment is needed. Use the US doctor handover checklist.

Payment and US insurance are separate checks

Ask for the settlement currency, payment recipient, accepted method and applicable fees before sending money. Do not assume a US card, Alipay or WeChat will work for every hospital or payment route. Confirm the complete method for your booking and retain the written quote and payment record.

Ask your insurer about the planned overseas service before relying on reimbursement or direct billing. An English invoice does not guarantee either. See the US insurance and Medicare questions. For visits within our published 2026 inclusion period, check that the agreed coordination and accompaniment have not been added twice to your total.

Yana’s published Shanghai video story shares one visitor’s hospital experience. Her personal arrangements and historical spending are not a current quote or a promise of the same tests, timing or support for another visitor.

A separate Canton Fair page describes questions raised during a US couple's planning enquiry. That enquiry is not presented as a completed appointment or testimonial. Each new visitor receives a plan based on their own dates, hospital and confirmed scope.

Common questions

Can I arrange a check-up while visiting family or attending business meetings?

You can ask about an appointment that fits your itinerary. Hospital acceptance, preparation, availability and any entry requirements still need confirmation; neither the meeting schedule nor an enquiry reserves a medical appointment.

Can I add MRI or CT to a routine check-up?

Ask about the named examination and body region. The hospital must review suitability, any referral or preparation requirements, available time and the separate or included price.

Will my US doctor accept the results?

Ask the receiving practice before travel. It determines whether it can review the outside report and images, whether a visit is required and whether further testing is needed. English translation does not guarantee acceptance.

Should I send my passport and medical history with the first enquiry?

No. Start with your city, travel dates and broad service request. Any necessary identity or clinical documents should be shared later through the agreed process.
