China Health Check Cost vs USA: Compare Your Actual Costs
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated
A China health check can be worth comparing with care at home, especially if you already have a China trip planned. The useful comparison is your complete China quote against the amount you would actually pay for an equivalent, clinically appropriate plan in the United States. A package headline and a US hospital bill are not automatically comparable.

First decide which US price you are comparing
There is no single national US price for a “full body checkup.” An insured preventive visit, a self-pay examination, an executive program and an investigation of symptoms can involve different services and payment arrangements. Start with the examinations your clinician recommends, then obtain the matching payment information.
For insured care, ask your plan and provider about your expected out-of-pocket cost. HealthCare.gov explains that specified preventive services are generally covered without cost sharing when delivered in network, subject to coverage conditions. This is not a promise that every test in a check-up package is free.
For US self-pay care, ask the provider for a written estimate. CMS describes good faith estimates for people not using insurance. Check whether a separate facility or specialist will issue another estimate. Compare the combined expected charges, not an unrelated billed charge found online.

These four services are included in the price of your selected, confirmed package. Extra tests, treatment, medicines, transport and accommodation are not included unless expressly listed in your written plan; separately priced additions require your approval.
VIP personal service means MyChinaCheckup’s individual coordination and accompaniment. It does not promise a hospital VIP ward, priority medical access or a medical outcome.
Published China prices: three concrete starting points
These examples are MyChinaCheckup's listed Shanghai package prices checked on 29 September 2026. They are not a China-wide average or quotations for the same set of examinations in the US.
| Listed option | Listed price, USD | Before comparing |
|---|---|---|
| Huadong Hospital: men's check-up 01 | $320 | Open the complete examination list. |
| Huadong Hospital: men's check-up 02 | $606 | Identify the extra tests you actually need. |
| Huadong Hospital: men's check-up 03 | $1,061 | Confirm scope; a higher price is not a clinical recommendation. |
These are three men's listings at one hospital, not universal options for every visitor. Use the package comparison tool and the Shanghai directory for other listed options. Ask for the current hospital, campus, date, appropriate tests and final total in writing.
Compare the same costs on both sides
| Cost component | China appointment | US alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Examinations | Exact package and approved changes. | Matching clinically recommended services. |
| MRI or CT | Named region, protocol and any separately quoted consultation. | Matching scan and relevant facility/professional charges. |
| Language and records | Agreed accompaniment, translation and image-copy scope. | Any records or consultation charges applicable to you. |
| Travel | Additional flights, hotel nights and local transport caused by the appointment. | Travel and time away needed for your local plan. |
| Follow-up | Potential return visits or review after reaching home. | Follow-up outside the initial estimate. |
Under our current service policy, confirmed visits on or before 31 December 2026 include the hospital check-up, coordination and agreed English accompaniment in the written total. Do not add these included services a second time. Confirm report translation scope, any additional examination and its charge separately.
If you are already traveling to China, compare the extra expense caused by the appointment. If the examination is the reason for the trip, include the whole additional travel plan. The result can be different for those two visitors.
Use your own written estimates
Enter comparable amounts in US dollars. Include only costs outside the China quote in the last two fields; enter 0 only when you have confirmed there is no additional cost. This worksheet compares budgets, not medical suitability or promised savings.
Your budget comparison · USD
Enter all four amounts, using 0 only for confirmed zero costs.
No numbers are sent or saved by this calculator. Reimbursement, exchange rates and follow-up costs can change the result.
Keep the original currencies and exchange-rate date with your estimates. Your card issuer or payment provider may apply a different conversion rate or fee.
Check insurance before relying on reimbursement
A domestic US benefit does not by itself establish cover for a planned check-up in mainland China. Ask your insurer about the named provider, preventive versus diagnostic services, advance approval and required documents. Treat an unconfirmed reimbursement as unconfirmed, rather than subtracting it from the quote.
Medicare generally does not cover health care outside the US, with limited exceptions. Do not assume a planned China check-up qualifies. Use our US policy questions before paying.
Price alone cannot answer quality or suitability
A price difference does not establish that two providers offer equivalent care, or that one is better. Compare the named hospital and department, clinical assessment, exact examinations, communication arrangements and follow-up plan. Ask which results a clinician will review and what happens if further assessment is advised.
Adding more scans is not automatically better screening. The FDA cautions about whole-body CT screening of people without symptoms. Discuss the purpose and risks of a proposed scan with the clinician; do not add one solely because the price looks attractive.
Common questions
How much cheaper is a China check-up than a US check-up?
There is no defensible single percentage for every visitor. Compare the same test scope, your actual US self-pay or insurance cost, the complete China quote and any additional travel or follow-up expenses.
Is MRI included in the published package price?
Only if the exact scan appears in the agreed package or written quote. Confirm the body region, any contrast or consultation requirements and the price before booking.
Does the lowest quoted total mean I should travel for screening?
No. Cost is one decision factor. Clinical suitability, travel arrangements and continuity of care also need to work for you.
