English Support for a Shanghai Check-up: Who Helps When?
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated
For a Shanghai health check, confirm English support at each handoff: arranging the visit, finding reception, communicating during examinations and receiving the report. English accompaniment, an English-speaking clinician and an English translation are different services.
Before you arrive
Ask who will confirm the appointment and whether that person will also accompany you. Request the campus, arrival time, reception point and contact method in writing. If you cannot use a Chinese messaging app, agree an alternative before travel.
Make a short list of practical questions and the medical concerns you want the hospital to review. The coordinator can clarify arrangements, but a clinical question needs the relevant healthcare professional. A translated message is not itself a medical assessment.
Your selected, confirmed package
Four services included in your package
All listed check-up tests
The examinations and consumables expressly listed for your selected package, with its eligibility conditions.
Personalized VIP coordination
Individual appointment planning, visit coordination and support through report delivery.
Dedicated English-speaking accompaniment throughout your check-up
A dedicated English-speaking companion supports you throughout your hospital check-up visit.
Hospital-issued Chinese report + full English translation
Your hospital’s original Chinese report and complete English translation, delivered within 3–5 working days after the listed package examinations are completed.
These four services are included in the price of your selected, confirmed package. Extra tests, treatment, medicines, transport and accommodation are not included unless expressly listed in your written plan; separately priced additions require your approval.
VIP personal service means MyChinaCheckup’s individual coordination and accompaniment. It does not promise a hospital VIP ward, priority medical access or a medical outcome.
At reception and between examinations
Ask where the English-speaking companion meets you and which parts of the appointment the agreed support covers. Explain in advance if you want privacy for particular discussions or need help hearing, reading forms or moving between departments.
Do not assume every member of staff speaks English. Equally, do not assume an international department automatically includes the same accompaniment arrangement as your quotation. Confirm who will help when a staff member asks an unexpected question or changes the examination sequence.
During a medical discussion
Address clinical questions to the hospital clinician, with interpretation if arranged. Ask for an explanation you understand before agreeing to a procedure. If you have not understood a proposed addition, pause and request clarification of its purpose, practical implications and cost.
- Who is making the clinical recommendation?
- Who is interpreting the discussion?
- Is a separate consultation needed?
- How will the recommendation appear in the report?
When the report is ready
The hospital-issued Chinese report and complete English translation are delivered within 3–5 working days after all examinations listed in your confirmed check-up package are completed. Separately accepted examinations outside the listed package require their own reporting arrangements.
Translation helps you read the findings; interpretation of their significance belongs to a clinician. Ask how to obtain a medical review and whether it is included or separately arranged. See the Shanghai follow-up guide for planning that handoff.
Common questions
Is an English-speaking doctor guaranteed?
Confirm the clinician and appointment arrangements before booking. English accompaniment should not be described as a guarantee that every clinician speaks English.
Can a family member interpret instead?
Tell the hospital your preference. The provider should confirm an appropriate communication arrangement for the consultation or procedure.

Plan your Shanghai visit
Tell us which stages need English support and your preferred contact channel. Ask for those arrangements to appear in your Shanghai appointment plan.
An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Confirm the hospital, campus, date, scope and total in writing before payment.
