China Health Checks: Language Requests Beyond English
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published
Tell us if you need a language other than English for your China health check, and identify where you need it: everyday coordination, clinical conversations, preparation instructions or written reports. Availability must be checked for the selected provider and dates. Included English accompaniment and translation do not establish that another language is available.
Describe the communication task as well as the language
Someone who can discuss travel in English may prefer a different language for a medical history or consent discussion. Another visitor may be comfortable speaking English but need a written report in the language used by their doctor at home. These are different requests and should be recorded separately.
Specify the spoken language or dialect and the language you read comfortably. For example, a request for Cantonese conversation should not be treated as a request for any Chinese-language explanation. Likewise, asking about Russian support is not evidence that a Russian-speaking clinician or interpreter is available at a particular campus.
Build a language plan for the whole visit
| Part of the visit | Preference to state | Confirmation to request |
|---|---|---|
| Booking and arrival | Language for messages and directions | Who can handle messages and the meeting point |
| Medical history and consultation | Language for detailed clinical discussion | Provider-approved interpretation arrangement |
| Preparation and consent | Language needed to understand instructions and questions | How the clinical team will confirm understanding |
| During examinations | Language needed for spoken instructions | Coverage where ordinary accompaniment cannot enter |
| Written records | Required report language and intended recipient | Which translation is included or separately agreed |
| Follow-up conversation | Language, time zone and preferred channel | Availability and appointment arrangements |
Use “required” for an essential need and “preferred” for an option you could change. That distinction helps avoid accepting a booking that cannot meet a necessary communication requirement. If two people attend together, make a separate plan for each rather than assume their language needs are identical.
Confirm who provides support and how
Ask whether the proposed support is in person or remote, which parts of the visit it covers, and how it connects to the hospital team. If remote support is proposed, clarify the device, connection and location arrangements before the appointment. Do not assume a video call is permitted in every examination room.
A family member may help with travel but should not automatically be treated as the solution for clinical interpretation. Tell the hospital what help you are proposing and ask what it will accept. You can also request private time to speak with the clinical team and state who may receive reports. The provider controls clinical communication and consent arrangements.
Ask what happens if departments call you at different times or the proposed interpreter becomes unavailable. The useful answer names a contact and a workable alternative, not simply “multilingual support”.
Keep spoken support and report translation separate
Specify whether you need the hospital original, the included English translation or an additional language version. Ask who will provide any additional translation, whether the receiving clinician needs a particular format and when it can be delivered after the original is released.
A third-language translation, certified document or clinician discussion in that language is not automatically part of the included English service. Before approving an extra service, obtain its scope and price. Retain the hospital-issued original with every translation so the document source remains clear.
The English accompaniment guide explains the standard support model. This page addresses a separate request that needs its own written answer.
Keep existing inclusions and additional requests clear
A confirmed MyChinaCheckup package includes its listed examinations and consumables, personal VIP coordination, dedicated English-speaking accompaniment throughout the check-up, and the hospital-issued Chinese original report with a full English translation. These included services should not be charged twice. Any requested service outside the accepted scope needs separate confirmation and, where applicable, an approved additional quote.
If your essential language requirement cannot be confirmed, discuss another date, provider or support arrangement before accepting the appointment. Do not assume staff will improvise on arrival. Where you accept a different language for some stages, record exactly which stages and what remains required.
For the operating model and current scope, see how MyChinaCheckup works and the service terms. The website’s English presentation is not a catalogue of all available languages.
Make the initial enquiry specific
Send the city, dates, number of attendees, spoken language or dialect, preferred written language and the stages where support is essential. Include special requirements, concerns and any preferred hospital. We can check availability and seek a proposal showing the confirmed support, report language, dates and total before payment.
Ask us to check your plan
Share your city, dates, concerns and special requirements. We will clarify what the selected provider can confirm before you accept a booking.
An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Clinical decisions, preparation and treatment are provided by the selected healthcare provider.
