Preparing for a Shanghai Check-up After a Flight
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated
Before a Shanghai health check, obtain preparation instructions for your actual examinations and fit them around your flight. Avoid creating your own fasting or medication schedule from a generic package description.
Ask for a written preparation sheet
Send your selected package and proposed appointment date to the coordinator. Ask the hospital to specify any fasting requirement, permitted drinks, preparation for imaging and documents to bring. Different tests can have different instructions.
MedlinePlus explains that some blood tests require fasting and that the healthcare provider should specify the duration. Use your provider’s instructions for your visit. Do not stop or adjust prescribed medicines on your own; ask the treating team how to manage them around testing.
Make the flight timeline explicit
Give arrival times in Shanghai local time, including the calendar date. Explain if the proposed appointment is soon after an overnight flight or if you will travel onward that day. Ask whether the preparation and arrival schedule are realistic together.
Keep room for flight delays, immigration, reaching your hotel and locating the confirmed campus. The coordinator should confirm an appointment that fits the whole journey; an early opening time alone does not establish that a same-morning arrival will work.
Tell the hospital about relevant constraints
Ask for individual advice if fasting is difficult because of a health condition, pregnancy or medication. Disclose relevant implants or safety information through the hospital’s screening process before an MRI. Tell staff if you did not follow preparation instructions so they can decide what to do.
Do not conceal a meal or medicine because you fear losing the appointment. The medical team needs accurate information to decide whether a test can proceed or should be rescheduled.
Prepare a small arrival pack
- The appointment confirmation with the exact campus and entrance.
- The identification documents the hospital requested.
- A current medicine list and relevant previous reports for clinical review.
- The written preparation instructions.
- A contact method that works after arrival.
Keep the documents accessible offline. Share sensitive records only through an agreed private channel. The initial Shanghai enquiry does not require uploading a passport or your complete medical history.
Common questions
Must everyone fast for a Shanghai check-up?
Preparation depends on the selected examinations and individual circumstances. Ask the hospital rather than assuming one rule applies to every package.
What if I ate before a test that required fasting?
Tell the hospital before the examination. Its clinical team should decide whether the test can proceed or needs another time.

Send your flight arrival time and preferred appointment date. Ask us to obtain the hospital’s preparation instructions before you commit.
An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Confirm the hospital, campus, date, scope and total in writing before payment.
