Total PSA, Free PSA and Prostate Ultrasound in Guangzhou Package Lists

By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published

Package lists and medical sources checked 13 October 2026.

A prostate-related line can name a blood measurement, an unspecified panel or an ultrasound examination. These descriptions leave different questions open. In the 21 Guangzhou men’s package pages reviewed here, a “two-component prostate panel” does not identify the two components, and a generic urinary-tract scan does not explicitly settle whether the prostate is included.

This guide compares published wording. It does not recommend PSA testing or cancer screening for travellers. For the broader clinical conversation, see cancer-screening questions in China and men’s check-up planning.

Three labels to keep separate

PSA is a protein made by the prostate, measured in blood. Total PSA assays measure both free and protein-bound forms; free PSA refers to the unbound form. They are distinct named measurements, although related. This is a terminology distinction, not a way to interpret a result. MedlinePlus PSA test; NCI prostate-screening PDQ, “Complexed PSA and Percent-Free PSA”.

Prostate ultrasound is imaging, rather than a PSA blood measurement. NCI explains that ultrasound cannot, by itself, diagnose prostate cancer. PSA screening also cannot diagnose cancer, and a low PSA does not exclude it. The number of prostate-related entries should therefore not be presented as a cancer-clearance score. NCI PSA fact sheet; MedlinePlus PSA test.

A dated comparison of all 21 Guangzhou men’s listings

The table covers three men’s listings at each of seven Guangzhou hospital entries in the 78-package Shanghai/Guangzhou catalogue inspected. Each link identifies the exact package. “No explicit row found” describes the reviewed table, not a hospital’s wider capabilities or a confirmed exclusion. Generic panels remain unresolved.

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Men’s check-up 03 “Tumor Screening Prostate”; components unspecified Kidneys, prostate and bladder named
Nanfang Men’s check-up 01, Men’s check-up 02 t PSA and f PSA separately named Kidneys, prostate and bladder named

Guangzhou First People’s Men’s check-up 01, Men’s check-up 02 “Prostate (PSA)”; free/total not stated Prostate named within a combined systems ultrasound; men-2 notes renal arteries excluded
Guangzhou First People’s Men’s check-up 03 No explicit PSA/prostate-panel row found Prostate named within a combined systems ultrasound; renal arteries excluded

Guangzhou Medical University First Affiliated Men’s Advanced 02, Men’s Select 03 “Prostate panel (2 components)” / 前列腺二项; components unnamed “Male urinary tract colour Doppler ultrasound”; prostate not separately named
Clifford Men’s Basic 01 No explicit PSA/prostate-panel row found Prostate colour Doppler ultrasound explicitly named
Clifford Men’s Advanced 02 Total PSA explicitly named; no separately named free-PSA row found Prostate colour Doppler ultrasound explicitly named
Clifford Men’s Select 03 Free PSA and total PSA separately named Prostate colour Doppler ultrasound explicitly named
Guangdong Second Provincial, Pazhou Men’s Basic 01 No explicit PSA/prostate-panel row found Prostate named within a combined colour-Doppler row
Guangdong Second Provincial, Pazhou Men’s Advanced 02, Men’s Selected 03 Total PSA and free PSA separately named A generic colour-Doppler row leaves its region unconfirmed; other named scans do not establish prostate inclusion

What the differences actually establish

The Clifford sequence is unusually clear at the wording level. Basic 01 names prostate ultrasound; Advanced 02 adds a named total-PSA row; Select 03 separately names both total and free PSA. That supports a statement about named items in those three lists. It does not establish that the largest option is clinically preferable, or that an unlisted assay is unavailable.

The same reading rule prevents two opposite errors elsewhere. Guangzhou Medical University First Affiliated’s two-component prostate panel cannot be expanded into total and free PSA just because other providers name that pair. Conversely, Pazhou Advanced 02 and Selected 03 do name both PSA measurements, but their generic colour-Doppler row cannot be promoted to confirmed prostate imaging. Blood-test specificity and scan specificity have to be checked independently.

A third uncertainty is the phrase “Prostate (PSA)” at Guangzhou First People’s. It identifies PSA at a broad level, but the wording itself does not identify separate total and free measurements. Keep that distinction in the comparison until the provider supplies the actual laboratory items.

A four-field specification to request

For a package you are already discussing, record four answers beside the source link:

  1. The exact laboratory item names, including whether total PSA, free PSA or both are specified.
  2. Every component of any two-item or prostate-assessment panel. Keep the source’s Chinese term next to the English wording.
  3. The exact ultrasound body region and form proposed. Do not fill in missing anatomy from “urinary tract” or “colour Doppler.”
  4. Whether any calculated ratio is reported, and which clinician will explain the findings. Two listed measurements do not, by themselves, promise a particular calculated output or consultation.

These are documentation questions, not instructions to order tests. NCI advises an individual discussion of screening benefits and harms before a decision about PSA screening. Package inclusion is not that discussion. NCI PSA fact sheet.

Questions this table does not answer

Does “two components” mean total PSA plus free PSA? Only when the components are actually named or confirmed. The GMU wording reviewed here does not name them.

Does an ultrasound row replace a PSA row? They describe different kinds of examination. The table records each separately and does not decide which, if either, is appropriate.

Does a blank establish that an examination is excluded? No. It establishes that the reviewed text did not explicitly identify it. An agreed plan can resolve the scope, but should not be invented from the catalogue.

This is an audit of MyChinaCheckup’s public catalogue, including linked source PDFs where provided, not an independent guarantee of the hospitals’ current operational menus. The complete HTML tables were reviewed, including generic scan rows that a keyword-only extract can miss.
