Requesting FIT During a Guangzhou Check-up: A Canton Fair Visitor’s Questions
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published
A Canton Fair visitor prefers to discuss a faecal immunochemical test, or FIT, while arranging a Guangzhou check-up and does not currently want colonoscopy. The practical challenge is to confirm the exact test and sample pathway while preserving an appropriate clinical follow-up plan.
A composite planning example based on anonymised enquiry themes, not a record of a completed visit or a promised outcome. The provider must confirm each arrangement.
Confirm the test rather than relying on a stool-test label
Ask whether the proposed package explicitly includes FIT and what the laboratory calls it. A general stool routine or unspecified occult-blood item does not by itself confirm the requested method. If the package does not include the accepted test, request the separate scope and price instead of assuming a free substitution.
Tell the receiving clinician whether this is a screening preference or a request related to symptoms or earlier findings. The clinician should decide the appropriate pathway. A preference to avoid colonoscopy does not establish that FIT alone answers the visitor’s clinical question.
Understand the decision that follows a result
The USPSTF colorectal-screening recommendation concerns a defined population of adults without symptoms and at average risk. It explains that a positive stool screening result needs follow-up colonoscopy to achieve the screening benefit. That guidance is not a rule allowing symptomatic visitors to use a negative FIT to exclude cancer or avoid assessment.
Discuss the visitor’s reluctance and possible next steps before testing. Preserve the current preference in the enquiry, while allowing the clinician to explain benefits, limitations and alternatives. No procedure or extra charge is authorised merely because a possible follow-up was mentioned.
Fit collection and return around the real exhibition day
Ask the hospital how and when to obtain its kit, which instructions to follow, where the sample must be returned and what timing or storage requirements apply. Follow that laboratory’s directions; do not improvise a container or assume the hotel can store or send the sample.
Put kit collection, the screening appointment, sample return and fixed exhibition commitments in one plan. If a hotel change or transport gap makes the return requirement impractical, discuss a different day with the provider before accepting the test. A free morning at the fair does not necessarily cover every step.
Keep completion, reporting and translation distinct
Record whether the kit was issued, whether a usable sample was received and whether the laboratory has released the result. A paid test or a completed check-up visit does not establish that the sample pathway is complete. Ask who will notify the visitor if recollection or another action is needed.
The hospital-issued Chinese report and complete English translation are delivered within 3–5 working days after all examinations listed in your confirmed check-up package are completed. A FIT request outside the listed package needs its own confirmed result and translation dates; do not apply the package deadline to that separate service.
Decide who reviews the result after the fair
Confirm the clinician responsible for explanation, how to arrange an accepted follow-up if needed and how records will be delivered after the visitor leaves Guangzhou. Keep the original result with its translation and relevant clinical instructions. An electronic result is not the same as a completed medical discussion.
The written plan should show the exact accepted test, any package change or extra fee, collection and return instructions, appointment status and result-review route. The Canton Fair planning page provides screening options; it does not guarantee FIT availability or that further investigation will never be needed.
Discuss your own plan
Name FIT explicitly and describe your available collection and sample-return windows. Ask the clinician to review the test choice and possible follow-up.
