Practical check-up guide
Body Composition, BMI and Bone Density in Guangzhou Check-up Lists
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published
Package wording and medical definitions checked 13 October 2026.
Height and weight, body composition, and bone density can all appear in check-up discussions, but they describe different information. In Guangzhou’s published lists, the difference is visible within the same package: Guangzhou Medical University First Affiliated’s Men’s Advanced 02, Men’s Select 03 and Women’s Select 03 each name body-composition analysis and a separate single-photon bone-density item.
This guide helps you match the information you are asking about to the actual catalogue row. It compares local wording rather than deciding which measurements you need. A method, output or diagnosis should not be filled in just because a package has a familiar label.
Three types of information to separate
Height, weight and BMI. BMI is calculated from weight and height. It does not directly measure body fat or distinguish fat, muscle and bone mass. Even where height and weight are listed, ask whether the report actually provides BMI if that is the record you need. CDC: about BMI.
Body composition. The term concerns the proportions of the body’s components, such as body fat. A catalogue label alone does not identify the technique, device or reported measures. US National Library of Medicine: body composition.
Bone density. Bone-density assessment concerns the mineral density of bone. DXA is one named method, but a broad catalogue heading cannot establish that method. Keep the actual method wording and measurement sites beside the request. MedlinePlus: bone density scan.
These definitions do not provide BMI targets, body-fat categories, weight-loss advice or a way to diagnose a condition.
What the Guangzhou catalogue actually names
We reviewed all 42 Guangzhou package tables in the 78-page Shanghai and Guangzhou catalogue. Four explicitly named body-composition analysis; ten named a bone-density item. None of the 42 tables explicitly used “BMI” in an item row. The last finding means BMI reporting is unconfirmed by those rows, not that the hospitals do not calculate it.
The table below shows every body-composition and bone-density match, plus examples of the separate height-and-weight wording. Row numbers are retained where published. Links identify the exact operator catalogue entries.

| Package | Exact relevant wording | Detail still unresolved by this row |
|---|---|---|
| Guangzhou Medical University First Affiliated Men’s Advanced 02 | Item 3: Body composition analysis / 身体成分分析; item 18: Single-photon bone-density measurement / 单光子骨密度测定 | Body-composition technique and output; bone measurement site |
| Guangzhou Medical University First Affiliated Men’s Select 03 | Item 3: Body composition analysis / 身体成分分析; item 24: Single-photon bone-density measurement / 单光子骨密度测定 | Body-composition technique and output; bone measurement site |
| Guangzhou Medical University First Affiliated Women’s Advanced 02 | Item 3: Body composition analysis / 身体成分分析 | Technique and output; no separately named bone-density row found in this table |
| Guangzhou Medical University First Affiliated Women’s Select 03 | Item 3: Body composition analysis / 身体成分分析; item 23: Single-photon bone-density measurement / 单光子骨密度测定 | Technique and output for body composition; bone site; source excludes pregnancy and plans for pregnancy within six months (confirm with the hospital) |
| Clifford Men’s Select 03 | Item 103: Ultrasound bone-density assessment / 超声骨密度检测 | Measurement site and device details |
| Clifford Women’s Select 03 | Item 104: Ultrasound bone-density assessment / 超声骨密度检测 | Measurement site and device details |
| Guangdong Second Provincial, Pazhou Men’s Basic 01, Men’s Selected 03, Women’s Basic 01, Women’s Advanced 02, Women’s Selected 03 | Bone-density examination / 骨密度检查 | The row itself asks for confirmation of device and measurement site |
| Nanfang Women’s check-up 01 | Height, Weight | Whether BMI is calculated and included in the report |
| Guangdong Second Provincial, Pazhou Men’s Advanced 02 | Height, weight and blood pressure (included) / 测身高、体重、血压(赠送) | Whether BMI is calculated and included in the report |
Guangzhou Medical University First Affiliated’s Women’s Select 03 bone-density row says the source excludes pregnancy and plans for pregnancy within six months. Confirm how that source-listed exclusion applies with the hospital. It is not a general medical rule for every bone-density method or provider.
What a heading-only comparison would miss
Clifford has a broad “Bone density” section heading, but the individual item underneath specifically says ultrasound. The Pazhou rows remain method-unspecified. GMU’s wording names single-photon measurement. A comparison that copies only the section headings would erase these differences.
The GMU rows show another important distinction: body-composition analysis and bone-density measurement are separately numbered entries. The bone item’s named method does not identify the method used for body composition. Do not label the body-composition service DXA or bioimpedance without confirmation.
Women’s Advanced 02 at GMU illustrates why package levels should be read individually. Its body-composition row does not establish the separate bone-density item found in Women’s Select 03. The site’s package names do not make higher and lower levels automatic unions of each other’s tests.
Match the question to the missing specification
Use one line per kind of information you want clarified. If a clinician has made a request, copy that request exactly rather than replacing it with a broader package label.

| Information to clarify | Written specification to request |
|---|---|
| Height and weight record | Measurements, units and whether a calculated BMI is actually reported |
| Body-composition report | Exact method and device, named output measures, units and any preparation instructions for that procedure |
| Bone-density examination | Exact method, measured skeletal sites, report type and applicable source-listed conditions |
| Previous measurement comparison | Which earlier records the reviewing clinician needs and whether the proposed examination is suitable for their purpose |
This is a specification check, not a recommendation to add all three categories. The hospital clinician should decide whether a proposed examination is useful for your situation. A more detailed catalogue label does not make a package medically preferable.
If your clinician has specifically requested DXA or wants a bone-density comparison with an earlier result, use the separate DXA and ultrasound planning guide. That guide addresses the requested method and sites; this crosswalk helps identify which local rows require that conversation.

Source and booking limits
All package observations come from MyChinaCheckup’s public HTML catalogue, checked on 13 October 2026. These operator-published lists are not hospital-confirmed orders, equipment inventories or live availability. An unnamed output remains unresolved, and an absent row does not establish that a service is unavailable elsewhere at the hospital.
Use Guangzhou check-up options to locate the current package you are discussing. Keep the exact row, the provider’s response and any clinician’s request together before accepting the final scope. For broader differences in included services and quotations, see how to compare packages.
