Blood Tests Only in China: Bring an Overseas Doctor’s Request
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published
You can enquire about only the blood tests requested by your overseas doctor. Before booking, the selected hospital must confirm the exact tests it can provide, whether a local consultation or order is required, how to prepare, and how results will reach the clinician who needs them. An overseas request does not by itself confirm a local appointment.
Start with the actual test list, not a package name
A request for “my usual blood work” leaves too much unresolved. Ask your doctor for the named tests, the reason for the request, any intended collection date and the details needed for review. If the request uses an abbreviation or a panel name, retain that wording and ask for its components to be clarified. The coordinator can pass the request to the hospital; the hospital decides what it can accept and perform.
For example, a traveller may have six requested measurements while a catalogue package contains four of them alongside unrelated examinations. Buying that package does not settle the two missing items. A blood-test-only proposal should show which requested items are accepted, which need clarification and which are unavailable. The appointment-type guide helps if you are unsure whether your concern first needs a consultation.
Use one acceptance row for every requested test
| Request from your doctor | Hospital confirmation to obtain | Status to record |
|---|---|---|
| Full test name and abbreviation | Exact local test name and whether it matches the request | Accepted / clarify / unavailable |
| Panel or several individual measurements | The included components, without assuming panel names are equivalent | Confirmed components and missing items |
| Sample and timing requirements, if specified | What the hospital can collect and any timing constraints | Collection appointment and instructions |
| Clinical purpose or monitoring question | Whether a local clinician must review or issue the order | Consultation required / order accepted |
| Date the result is needed | Expected release for each item and any pending results | Estimate, delivery contact and reviewer |
Keep the original request next to the hospital’s response. If a proposed test has a different name, ask the clinicians to resolve whether it answers the same question. Translation alone should not silently replace one test with another. A coordinator’s “received” message means the request arrived; ask separately whether the clinical and laboratory checks are complete.
Confirm the collection visit before arranging your morning
Request the exact campus, registration desk, accepted identity document and collection slot. Ask whether all accepted samples can be collected at that visit or whether an item requires another appointment. Do not assume a short collection means immediate reporting, and do not arrange your flight around an unconfirmed laboratory release date.
Preparation depends on the ordered tests. MedlinePlus advises following the provider’s instructions and discussing medicines or supplements instead of changing them yourself. Ask for one preparation sheet for the accepted list, including what to do if you cannot follow an instruction. MedlinePlus: preparing for a laboratory test.
See the preparation questions if blood collection is being combined with other examinations. A generic package fasting reminder should not replace instructions for a particular requested test.
Request a standalone total with explicit deliverables
Ask for the accepted test list, any required consultation, collection-related charges, language support and report arrangements in one written proposal. A standalone laboratory request is individually assessed; catalogue package prices do not establish its price or availability. Clarify the quote before payment, including what happens if the hospital cannot accept a requested item.
A confirmed MyChinaCheckup package includes its listed examinations and consumables, personal VIP coordination, dedicated English-speaking accompaniment throughout the check-up, and the hospital-issued Chinese original report with a full English translation. These included services should not be charged twice. Any requested service outside the accepted scope needs separate confirmation and, where applicable, an approved additional quote.
If you choose only laboratory testing, have the proposal state the support and documents included in that particular booking. If you instead add tests to a package, ask for an itemised addition and check that already included items are not duplicated.
Name the person who will review the result
Agree whether the requesting overseas doctor will review the results and whether that clinician needs the Chinese original, English translation, units, reference ranges or additional method details. Specify how missing or delayed items will be identified. Ask who to contact if the hospital recommends prompt follow-up; an administrative delivery confirmation is not a clinical review.
Keep each issued result with its own collection date and laboratory details. Our units and reference-range handover guide provides a format for presenting records without converting or interpreting them yourself.
Send a request that can be checked
Tell us your city, available dates, that you want blood tests only, whether you have a doctor’s named request, and when that doctor needs the results. Include relevant concerns or special requirements. We can explain how to provide the supporting request for hospital review and seek a written answer for each item before you commit to the visit.
Ask us to check your plan
Share your city, dates, concerns and special requirements. We will clarify what the selected provider can confirm before you accept a booking.
An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Clinical decisions, preparation and treatment are provided by the selected healthcare provider.
