Health-Check Follow-up at a Different City’s Hospital in China
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published
If your itinerary moves to another city before a follow-up appointment, ask the receiving hospital to confirm the consultation and the records it needs. The original provider remains the source of its reports and pending results. A check-up booking in one city does not automatically create a follow-up appointment, accepted test result or shared record at another hospital.
Clarify the follow-up question before choosing the next city
Start with what the original clinician recommended: the kind of review, its urgency and the records needed. Tell that clinician about your next travel stage and ask whether the proposed timing and location fit the recommendation. Do not postpone a time-sensitive review simply to match a flight or hotel booking.
This page concerns a new follow-up appointment at a different provider. If you only need to move an uncompleted check-up to another date, use the appointment-change guide. If you are still choosing where to have your first check-up, compare the trip itinerary before booking rather than assume a later transfer will be easy.
Give each provider a clear responsibility
| Item | Original provider | Receiving provider |
|---|---|---|
| Clinical question | Supplies findings and any recommended follow-up | Confirms suitable department and consultation request |
| Issued records | Provides original reports and requested available files | States what it needs and can review |
| Pending results | Confirms remaining items and expected release | Explains whether the consultation should await them |
| Repeat or additional tests | Clarifies previous scope and dates | Clinician decides what is needed for the new assessment |
| Appointments | Confirms any original review still required | Separately accepts city, campus, clinician and slot |
| Charges and support | Explains the existing accepted booking scope | Provides a separate scope and quote for new services |
Keep both providers’ names and contacts on the handover sheet. “Sent to the next hospital” should have a recipient and an acknowledgement. It should not replace confirmation that the next clinician has the information needed to see you.
Prepare a packet the receiving team can identify
Include the original report, its translation where available, examination dates and patient references. For scans, ask the receiving hospital whether it needs the report, image files or both, and how it accepts them. Do not assume a screenshot of a written summary is sufficient for an imaging review.
List pending items separately instead of leaving an apparent gap. For example, the procedure report may be ready while pathology is still being processed. Ask whether the new appointment should proceed with that limitation and who will send the later result. The pathology tracker can also be used when leaving one Chinese city for another.
Authorise any sharing through the agreed route and retain your own complete copy. A booking assistant or payer does not automatically become the recipient of clinical records.
Ask about acceptance before paying for a replacement visit
Whether a receiving clinician can rely on earlier results depends on the actual clinical question and records. This guide offers no nationwide guarantee of test-result acceptance and no promise that repeat testing can be avoided. Ask the receiving team to identify the information it needs before the appointment.
If another test is proposed, ask what question it addresses and whether the earlier material can first be reviewed. Keep that clinical discussion separate from approving its price. A translator can clarify the wording of the proposal but cannot determine that two examinations are clinically interchangeable.
Confirm the new campus, language support and total
MyChinaCheckup currently lists options in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing, Chengdu, Sanya and Zhuhai. Those directories are a starting point for an enquiry, not proof that every specialist or follow-up service is available in every city. Ask about the particular provider and date. A request for another location needs a separate feasibility answer.
A traveller leaving Shanghai for Guangzhou, for example, should seek a named receiving appointment rather than use a Guangzhou screening package as a substitute for a recommended consultation. For an initial Shanghai check-up use the Shanghai planning page; for the receiving location consult the city directory.
Ask for the new consultation, any approved tests, accompaniment and document arrangements in one written quote. Existing package inclusions and accepted terms remain attached to that booking; a second provider’s services are not assumed to be included or free.
Send both sides of the itinerary
Include the original hospital and city, the recommendation you want help arranging, the next city, available dates and outstanding results. Tell us any special requirements and whether the first provider has advised a particular timing. We can seek a receiving appointment and identify the records still needed, while the clinicians decide the care plan.
If travel or a missing result changes the plan, ask for one updated confirmation showing the appointment status and who is following each open item. Keep the original hospital’s pending-result contact until every expected report has been resolved.
Ask us to check your plan
Share your city, dates, concerns and special requirements. We will clarify what the selected provider can confirm before you accept a booking.
An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Clinical decisions, preparation and treatment are provided by the selected healthcare provider.
