Homocysteine in China Check-up Packages: A Separate Measurement
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published
A homocysteine row does not establish that vitamin B12, folate or a lipid panel has also been measured. These are related clinical subjects with different test identities. The useful comparison is between named measurements, not broad labels such as “nutrition” or “heart health”.
In the 78 Shanghai and Guangzhou package tables checked on 13 October 2026, 27 explicitly name homocysteine. Four of those rows state an enzymatic method. The audit below preserves that limited method detail and shows how vitamin and lipid entries must be checked separately.
What homocysteine measures
Homocysteine is an amino acid. A homocysteine blood test measures that substance; vitamins B6, B12 and folate participate in the body's processing of it. That relationship explains why clinicians may consider the test in certain vitamin-related assessments, but it does not turn a homocysteine result into separate concentrations for those vitamins. MedlinePlus: homocysteine test.
A vitamin B test measures one or more specified B vitamins. A cholesterol/lipid test concerns measurements such as total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. These are separate analytes and should retain separate entries in a package comparison. MedlinePlus: vitamin B testing; MedlinePlus: cholesterol levels.

| Name being matched | Measurement identity | What the row cannot supply by implication |
|---|---|---|
| Homocysteine | An amino acid | Direct B12, folate or lipid measurements |
| Vitamin B12 / folate | Named B vitamins | A separate homocysteine result |
| Vitamin panel, components unspecified | A grouped vitamin entry | The identities of unnamed components, or homocysteine inclusion |
| Lipid panel | A group of lipid-related measurements | A homocysteine assay merely because both may appear in cardiovascular discussions |
All 27 named catalogue occurrences
The links below cover every explicitly named homocysteine row found in this 78-page audit. Grouping means that the displayed analyte and method wording matches, not that the complete packages are identical. Source item numbers are omitted in this display; the six GMU rows are numbered 20, 28, 39, 19, 27 and 37 respectively, while Clifford uses 71 in the 02 pair and 78 in the 03 pair.

| Package sources | Published analyte wording | Original Chinese item cell | Method detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Huadong: Men 03 | Homocysteine | No Chinese item cell published | Not stated in this item |
| Huashan Pudong: Women 03 | Homocysteine | No Chinese item cell published | Not stated in this item |
| Renji East: Men 02, Men 03, Women 03 | Homocysteine | 同型半胱氨酸 | Not stated in this item |
| Ruijin Jiading: Women 02, Women 03 | Homocysteine | No Chinese item cell published | Not stated in this item |
| Sun Yat-sen Memorial: Men 01, Women 01 | Homocysteine | No Chinese item cell published | Not stated in this item |
| Nanfang: Men 01, Men 02 | Homocysteine | No Chinese item cell published | Not stated in this item |
| Zhujiang: Men 01, Men 02, Women 01, Women 03 | Homocysteine | No Chinese item cell published | Not stated in this item |
| GMU First Affiliated: Men 01, Men 02, Men 03, Women 01, Women 02, Women 03 | Homocysteine | 同型半胱氨酸 | Not stated in this item |
| Clifford: Men 02, Men 03, Women 02, Women 03 | Homocysteine, enzymatic method | 同型半胱氨酸测定(酶法) | Enzymatic method named |
| Guangdong Second Provincial, Pazhou: Men 03, Women 03 | Homocysteine | 同型半胱氨酸 | Not stated in this item |
The four Clifford rows explicitly state “enzymatic method” / 酶法. That is useful documented detail, but it is not a claim that this method is better, nor proof that the other 23 use a different method. Those other rows simply do not state one. None of the displayed homocysteine item titles identifies serum versus plasma, so that specification should remain unconfirmed by the row.
Three same-package checks that prevent mistaken equivalence
The complete item tables provide a stronger check than a single matching keyword:
Scroll horizontally to see all columns.
| Package | Homocysteine | Vitamin wording in the same table | Lipid wording in the same table | What remains unresolved |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Huashan Pudong Women 03 | Separately named | Folate and Vitamin B12 are separately named | HDL Cholesterol (HDL-C) and LDL Cholesterol (LDL-C) are separately named; additional lipid-group rows also appear | The separate rows must not be collapsed into one homocysteine result or treated as a complete specification of every lipid group |
| Renji East Men 03 | Separately named | Nine-component serum vitamin panel / 血清维生素9项 | Four-component lipid panel / 血脂四项 | Neither panel identifies its individual components; serum describes the vitamin panel, not the separate homocysteine row |
| Ruijin Jiading Women 02 | Separately named | Folate named; Vitamin B12 not separately named | Total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol separately named | B12 inclusion is unestablished; it cannot be supplied by the homocysteine or folate row |
Renji's two panel counts do not resolve this problem. Nine vitamin components and four lipid components are counts, not component lists. The source expressly leaves their individual names unspecified. Importing a typical panel from a medical information page would create a package claim the commercial source does not support.
The separate vitamin-specimen guide and lipid-panel guide cover those direct measurements. This comparison adds the missing homocysteine distinction and the method audit.
Does its inclusion make it a routine heart-health upgrade?
No. MedlinePlus states that routine homocysteine testing for heart-disease risk is not recommended for everyone. It also explains that lowering homocysteine has generally not reduced heart-attack or stroke risk in studies. A commercial inclusion is therefore not evidence that adding this test will improve an asymptomatic visitor's outcome. MedlinePlus: uses and limits of homocysteine testing.
This guide supplies no risk score, target level, supplement regimen or treatment change. A result is not a diagnosis of vitamin deficiency or heart disease on its own. The purpose of testing and the meaning of a result belong in a clinical discussion.
What should an existing test request ask the provider to confirm?
Keep the requested analyte as “homocysteine” rather than changing it to a generic vitamin or heart panel. Then ask:
- What exact laboratory order and report name will be used, and does it match any form or specimen stated in the original request?
- What method is used if that detail matters to the requesting clinician? An unstated method stays unknown until the laboratory answers.
- If the request separately names B12, folate or lipid measurements, where is each documented in the accepted scope?
- Who will supply preparation instructions and review the result? The method label does not answer either question.
A coordinator can obtain those specification answers without interpreting a result. The provider should decide any clinical changes; the catalogue should not prompt self-directed vitamin use or medicine adjustments.
Audit limits and planning
The 27 matches were identified in complete public HTML tables, including numbered item names and descriptions, refreshed on 13 October 2026. This is a bounded audit of 78 MyChinaCheckup Shanghai and Guangzhou pages, not every package in China. Unnamed panels and missing named rows remain unresolved; absence from a list is not proof that a hospital cannot provide a measurement.
The catalogue is an operator source, not independent confirmation of the hospital laboratory's current order set, method or appointment availability. For a written enquiry, use MyChinaCheckup with the selected package link and exact test wording. The healthcare provider determines suitability and medical care. An enquiry does not reserve an appointment.
