An ENT Check or a Hearing Test? What Package Wording Includes

By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Published

An ear, nose and throat entry does not identify every hearing test that may happen during a visit. In the published Ren’ai catalogue, some packages have an additional tuning-fork section; others show the ENT examination without that separate section. Neither wording establishes a formal pure-tone audiometry appointment.

This guide separates the examination area, the named hearing method and the report that a visitor may already have been asked to obtain. The comparison is about catalogue scope, not which hearing tests anyone should have.

Read the heading as well as the item

On Ren’ai Men 1, “Hearing assessment” appears under the heading “Tuning-fork hearing test / 音叉检查.” Taken alone, the item sounds broad. Read in its table context, it is attached to a named method.

The linked package PDF shows the same hierarchy. Its ENT section lists examination areas, then a separate tuning-fork section contains the hearing item. Flattening the table into a list of keywords would lose that relationship and could make the scope seem wider than the source supports.

By contrast, Renji East Men 1 names an ENT examination without specifying a hearing-test method in that row. The Renji PDF does not add that missing method. The appropriate label is “method not specified,” rather than an assumption that a particular hearing test is included.

What the terminology can and cannot tell you

MedlinePlus distinguishes several hearing-test methods. Pure-tone audiometry measures the quietest tones a person can hear across different pitches. Speech testing uses spoken material. Tuning-fork tests use a vibrating instrument and may compare hearing through air and bone. Tympanometry examines middle-ear function. These are distinct descriptions; one name should not be substituted for another when matching an existing request. MedlinePlus: Hearing Tests for Adults

“ENT” identifies the ears, nose and throat area of practice. A package row bearing that label is not itself a detailed protocol. Likewise, “hearing assessment” needs its surrounding heading or a provider specification before it can be matched to a requested method.

The term “formal audiometry” can also be too broad for a booking enquiry. If a clinician or another organization has asked for a particular examination or report, preserve that exact wording. Ask the receiving provider to identify the method it will perform and the result document it will supply.

The 13 October 2026 catalogue matrix

All six Ren’ai package lists were inspected in the captured current catalogue. The table retains the distinction between an examination section and a separate hearing section. “Not separately listed” describes these pages only; it does not establish hospital availability or definite exclusion.

Ren’ai package Published ENT scope Separate tuning-fork section with hearing item Pure-tone audiometry expressly named in the inspected list?
Men 1 Ear canals, nasal cavity and throat Yes No; inclusion unresolved
Men 2 Same three examination areas Not separately listed No; inclusion unresolved
Men 3 Same three examination areas Yes No; inclusion unresolved
Women 1 Same three examination areas Yes No; inclusion unresolved
Women 2 Same three examination areas Not separately listed No; inclusion unresolved
Women 3 Same three examination areas Yes No; inclusion unresolved

The exact Chinese source names for the ENT areas are 内外耳道, 鼻腔 and 喉部. The hearing item is 听力, under 音叉检查. These are source labels, not newly supplied translations of a formal audiometry order.

The matrix has a useful practical result: the displayed tier number is not a safe way to infer the presence of a named hearing method. Four lists explicitly show the tuning-fork section; the two tier-2 lists do not separately name it. This is a documentation finding, not a claim that one tier is clinically superior or that an unlisted service cannot be arranged.

For a second style of listing, Renji East Men 1 gives the bilingual label “Ear, nose and throat examination / 耳鼻喉科.” It supplies less method detail than the Ren’ai section hierarchy. The catalogue therefore supports different levels of certainty: a broad ENT row in one example and a named tuning-fork method in another. Formal pure-tone testing remains a separate question in both.

Match the requested result, not a reassuring label

A booking answer is useful when it identifies what will be done and what document will follow. This worksheet is for clarifying an existing request, not choosing extra tests.

Scroll horizontally to see all columns.

If the existing request says… Record from the catalogue Ask the provider to confirm…
ENT examination The exact ENT row and its listed areas The examination scope and whether a separate consultation is needed for the stated purpose
Tuning-fork assessment The heading plus its hearing item, if present Whether that named method is in the confirmed appointment
Pure-tone audiometry No explicit match in these inspected examples Whether the exact test can be arranged, where, and whether it is included or separately quoted
Audiogram or a specified hearing report Do not equate a general hearing row with the requested document The examination underlying the report and the fields or format the requesting party requires
Speech testing Do not infer it from a tuning-fork or ENT label The named method and language of the test material
Hearing assessment, with no method Keep the request unresolved Which examination the requesting clinician intended

A reply saying “ENT is included” may settle the first row while leaving the others unanswered. Keep each outstanding question visible until the receiving clinical team confirms it. If an employer or other organization needs a particular report, that organization’s acceptance criteria are another question; the package label cannot guarantee acceptance.

Keep communication support separate from test scope

Written instructions, an English-speaking companion and a hearing-test appointment answer different needs. Confirm how instructions will be communicated during the actual examination and whether the testing department can accommodate the visitor’s stated communication needs. For any language-dependent task, ask the department how that affects its procedure; do not assume a companion can translate the test material.

The older-visitors accessibility guide addresses practical communication and assistance. It does not certify the presence of audiometry. Conversely, a named hearing-test row does not confirm accompaniment, accessible routing or the report language.

Before treating an appointment as settled, record the exact test, department and campus; whether a separate slot is needed; the document to be issued; expected report timing; and any agreed additional charge. These are provider questions, not promises that every item is available. For the wider visit, use the package-comparison guide and China check-up planning.

Evidence limits and sources

Catalogue wording was inspected on 13 October 2026. The Ren’ai Men 1 webpage and its linked PDF were rechecked together; the other five Ren’ai entries use the same-date catalogue capture. Renji East Men 1 was checked against its webpage and linked PDF. The PDFs and pages belong to the same commercial catalogue and are not independent evidence of a hospital’s current appointment capacity.

  • The six Ren’ai pages linked in the matrix support the section-presence comparison. Men 1’s PDF supports the heading-to-item relationship.
  • Renji East Men 1’s linked page and PDF support the example of a broadly named ENT row without a method specification.
  • MedlinePlus: Hearing Tests for Adults, updated 25 October 2023; accessed 13 October 2026, supports the short method distinctions. It does not verify any commercial package.

No explicitly named pure-tone audiometry entry was found in these inspected lists. That finding cannot establish that any hospital lacks audiometry or cannot offer it separately. This article supplies test-name literacy, not a diagnosis, screening schedule or recommendation to add examinations.
