Your questions, explained
Can a Partner or Companion Attend My Health Check in China?
By MyChinaCheckup coordination team · Updated
Ask the selected hospital before your visit. Permission to accompany you to reception does not automatically include consultation rooms, examination areas or recovery spaces. Confirm what support you want, which areas the companion may enter, and whether you consent to sharing medical information. English interpretation, personal companionship and clinical care are different roles.
Agree on the companion's role
A partner may provide reassurance, keep track of belongings or help remember practical questions. An interpreter helps communication. A coordinator helps with the agreed appointment process. A caregiver may be needed for personal assistance. Naming the task makes it easier for the hospital to confirm what is possible.
Do not assume that one person covers every role. Tell us if you need help walking between departments, understanding instructions, contacting family or travelling back to your accommodation. Personal care, lifting, nursing and overnight attendance require specific discussion; ordinary English accompaniment should not be treated as a promise of these services.

VIP personal service means MyChinaCheckup’s individual coordination and accompaniment. It does not promise a hospital VIP ward, priority medical access or a medical outcome.
Check access area by area
Ask the department about the actual visit rather than whether visitors are allowed in general. The answer for the reception area may differ from the answer for an examination or procedure room. Check again if an additional appointment is added.
| Part of the visit | Question to confirm |
|---|---|
| Registration and waiting | Can the companion stay with me, and is identification required? |
| Doctor consultation | Can they attend with my permission, and how is interpretation arranged? |
| Examination or procedure | Where must they wait, and who will update them? |
| Recovery or inpatient area | What separate access, escort or visiting rules apply? |
Ask for a meeting point and a contact method if you will temporarily be separated.
Make your privacy preferences explicit
Jiahui Health's published patient-rights document addresses confidential information, involvement of family or significant others, and receiving or refusing visitors subject to clinical or reasonable restrictions. It is a provider-specific example of why companionship and information access are separate matters. Check the rules and permission process at your chosen hospital.
Tell the team what the companion may hear or receive. You might want a partner present for the consultation but prefer results sent only to you. A shared booking or a joint payment should not be treated as your instruction to share all medical information. Ask how to record your preferences and change them if needed.
Arrange interpretation without losing private discussion time
If you would like part of the conversation to be private, say so when planning the visit. Ask whether the hospital can provide another communication option for that portion. This is especially useful if your only interpreter is the person you prefer to exclude from a sensitive discussion.
Before a significant explanation or consent conversation, ask who will interpret and whether the hospital is comfortable with that arrangement. A bilingual friend or coordinator should not answer clinical questions on your behalf. Prepare your own questions in advance, and ask the clinician to clarify anything that remains uncertain before you make a decision.
Plan the end of the visit as well as the start
If a procedure involves sedation or specific recovery arrangements, ask the treating team what escort and aftercare support it requires. Confirm whether the proposed companion can meet those requirements and how long support must be available. Do not infer the answer from an ordinary check-up's schedule.
For couples having separate examinations, one person's appointment may overlap with the other's need for assistance. Check this before relying on each other as escorts. If you are visiting alone, state that early so the provider can assess the plan. For agreed MyChinaCheckup support, have the named role, meeting place and attendance period included in your written arrangement.
Common questions
Can my spouse automatically receive my medical report?
Do not assume so. Tell the hospital and coordinator whom you authorise to receive it and ask about their consent process. You can request that results be sent only to you.
Can our coordinator enter every examination room?
That depends on the department's rules, the examination and your permission. Confirm where support is available and how staff will communicate with you in areas where the coordinator cannot enter.
Does English accompaniment include overnight care?
Only if that service has been explicitly arranged and confirmed. Ask about the role, hours and responsibilities in writing; daytime coordination is not a substitute for required clinical or personal care.
Plan the details before you book
Tell us who will travel with you and what support you need. We can ask the hospital about companion access, interpretation and any separate escort requirements before the visit is confirmed.
An enquiry does not reserve an appointment. Confirm the hospital, date, scope and total in writing before payment.
