UK Visitors: MRI, CT and Painless Endoscopy in China
Updated 14 September 2026 · MyChinaCheckup
Many UK visitors ask whether advanced tests can be arranged during the same China trip as a preventive health check-up. MRI, CT and “painless” gastroscopy or colonoscopy may be possible, but each requires a separate clinical and scheduling check. The efficient approach is to send the request before travel with the body area, symptoms or screening purpose, previous reports and preferred city.
How to book efficiently
- Complete the pre-screening form and state whether the test is screening, follow-up or required by another doctor.
- Ask for the exact scanner or endoscopy campus, preparation instructions, contrast or sedation requirements and an itemised quote.
- Reserve a morning slot for fasting blood work and imaging; endoscopy timing may require a longer fast and a separate recovery period.
- Request Chinese and professional English reports, plus the delivery method, before paying the payment.
MRI and CT: what to confirm
- MRI timing depends on body region, machine availability and whether contrast is recommended.
- CT may involve contrast, kidney-function checks or other preparation decided by the hospital.
- Tell the hospital about implants, pregnancy, allergies, kidney disease and previous imaging before the appointment.
- Images and reports are separate deliverables; ask whether DICOM images or a download link are included.
“Painless” gastroscopy or colonoscopy
In China, “painless” usually refers to sedation or anaesthesia supervised by the hospital team. Suitability, fasting, escort requirements and recovery time must be confirmed by the treating hospital. Do not drive or plan a flight immediately afterwards without following the hospital’s instructions. A combined gastroscopy and colonoscopy can require more time than a standard morning check-up.
What a real case shows
In an anonymised visitor case, an international traveller requested MRI after a long-haul flight. The coordinator adjusted the schedule for rest, separated optional imaging from the core package and confirmed the report handover before departure. Another UK traveller combined a morning check-up with a TCM consultation by stating both appointments at the first enquiry. These cases show why the test list and departure deadline should be written into the first quote request.
Report timing and follow-up
A typical preventive package is planned for about 2–3.5 hours on site, while MRI, CT or sedated endoscopy may extend the visit. The hospital-issued Chinese report and complete English translation are delivered within 3–5 working days after all examinations listed in your confirmed check-up package are completed. Services outside the listed package need separate confirmation. If you leave China earlier, request electronic delivery and ask how an abnormal result will be reviewed after departure.
